Advertising

We could advertise our film in numerous ways including posters and as trailers before similar themed films. One method we could use is trailers during commercial add breaks. Here are suitable shows in which we could advertise during their add breaks.

We chose these two because of their athletic appeal and athletic audience.

We have chosen these tv channels due to the audience which it attracts as this is an audience that we want to attract.

Conclusion of audience reaserch

After our research into our audience in which will effect our story-line ans script in terms of the language used and actions of screen, we concluded that our film should be a family film with an rating of pg. We feel this because  of its universal appeal across all ages as most people say they like Jenga and  along with the recommend age on the box of Jenga (6+). The sporting element means we can also aim at the athletic type of person as well as young children because of the "silly" side of it.

To conclude our film audience has a wide range and can be advertised in multiple different ways to many different people but mainly kids and athletic people.

Mockumentary Film Opening Prezi

This is a Prezi presentation on our inspirations for or film opening to our ideas and then to the basic plot points for our opening.

Film Opening idea

My group (Alex, Joe and me) presenting our film opening idea.

Come Fly With Me

This clip shows an interview between to characters as well as the characters talking directly to the character. It is filmed in a documentary style where during the interview section they film using an over the shoulder style but from a distance almost like the camera is not allowed in the interview room and is slightly shaky making it seem like the camera is being hand held. There is a voice over narrator making is seem like it is a documentary and portraying realism. There is text on the screen stating there persons name and job similar to a documentary which also provides realism.

Comic Book: The Movie

Comic Book: The Movie. This mockumentary film beings with some opening credits but with no sound playing in the background. This is possible to keep the audience at suspense. It then moves onto an clip of moving clouds with some more non-diegetic text placed over the top of this in a comic book like font with a yellow colour contrasting the non-diegetic sound that is present which is quiet dark and sinister sounding. The non-diegetic text suddenly changes as an image of flying parts form a logo with the name of the film onto it along with a change of music which is much more upbeat in which can be linked into a superhero stylised music which suggests that the film has some link into this. The film goes into a man speaking into a camera explaining his love for comic books in which is accomplished by some images of his life. It then shows what he does for a job providing realism in which is vital for Mockumentarys.

This is Spinal Tap Opening

This is the opening of the 1984 Mockumentary or Rockumentary. The start shows some credits in which there is no sound providing a serious tone. After this we have the camera follow the director of the film in which he speaks of a past experience of hearing the frictional band Spinal Tap and then a brief history of this band he explains that when they went on a tour of the United States in 1982 that he jumped at the chance to film it and capture what really happens behind the scenes in which the audience are about to see. There is no clear comedic aspects and it is shot in a vary serious tone but a believable one. This is a simple but effective opening as is provides realism which Mockumentary's need. The opening lasts for 1:52 seconds

Ratings: IMDB 8.0, Rotten Tomatoes 95% Fresh
Box Office performance: $4,491,645

Film Openings: Mike Bassett England Manager

Mike Bassett England Manager opening: The film begins with non-diegetic text of which is the film production company. This is shown in red text on a black background making this stand out. there is no sound during this part and I believe the reason for this is to try and give a serious impression. Following this there is more non-diegetic text of a qoute from an ex England manager which immediately signals to the audience that this film has a sporting connection. this is written in a different place on the screen and in a different colour to the previous non-diegetic text of which makes this stand out in comparison. They possible have done this as they want the audience to recognise this more than the previous non-diegetic text. Following this there is non-diegetic sound which gets louder as various clips appear. We find out that this is for an opening of a new channel and filmed in such as way that its as the audience is watching it like they would to any other news channel making the non-diegetic sound diegetic sound. Once this has stopped a news reporter speaks as though it is a real news reporter providing realism. The first and therefore top story of this news report is that Norwich football club with manager Mike Bassett has won the Mr clutch cup. This tells us that this character is significant in the film. By using a well known comedic actor is Ricky Tomlinson alerts the audience that this is a comedy film. The entire opening sequence is done in this news way with showing clips and having the news reporter providing an almost voice over effect but on occasion you can see him. while this is happening clear comedic aspects are shown such as the bus taking a wrong turning. The only character other than the news reporter to speak is Ricky Tomlinson's character Mike Bassett possibly as he is the main character and the audience has gone to see the film because of him. This opening sequence lasts for 1:51 with the ending being the film title which is simple in design but effective.

Our Task

We have been given the task of creating a 2 minute sequence for a film opening.

My group consists of Me, Joe Ellis and Alex Bagley.

After a group discussion we concluded that we wanted to explore the mockumentary styled film due to the realism effect and comedic values it brings. Upon reaching this decision we will start to research mockumentary films and their opening.
